The Definitive Guide To IC Insights: Semiconductor Market Capital Spending Will See The Largest Decline

IC Insights has good news and bad news from November 24. The good news is that CAPEX will grow 19% year-over-year to a record $181.7 billion in 2022, IC Insights said. The bad news is that global semiconductor CAPEX is forecast to decline 19% year-over-year in 2023, which would be the biggest decline since 2008.     Semiconductor suppliers are enjoying a strong influx of orders at the start of the year due to strong post-COVID-19 economic activity. Strong demand has pushed utilization rates above 90 percent for most fabs and 100 percent for many semiconductor foundries.   In the middle of the year, however, the picture suddenly changed. Soaring inflation has quickly slowed the global economy, forcing many semiconductor makers to scale back their aggressive expansion plans.   As a result, IC Insights revised its 2022 global semiconductor CAPEX forecast to show 19 percent growth to $181.7 billion this year. The revision was down from an initial forecast of $190.4 billion and 24 percent

What are the three main types of chip architecture?

ARM is short for Advanced RISC Machine , which is a 32-bit lean instruction set architecture, but is also equipped with a 16-bit instruction set, generally saving up to 35% over the equivalent 32-bit code, while retaining all the advantages of a 32-bit system.   The main features of ARM processors are.   (1) Small size, low power consumption, low cost, high performance - the most important reason why ARM is widely used in embedded systems Support for Thumb (16-bit)/ARM (32-bit) dual instruction set, which is well compatible with 8-bit/16-bit devices.   (2) Extensive use of registers for faster instruction execution.   (3) Most data operations are done in registers.   (4) Flexible and simple addressing methods and high execution efficiency.   (5) Instruction length is fixed.   (6) Load_store structure: In RISC, all calculations are required to be done in the registers. And the communication between registers and memory is done by separate instructions. And in CSIC, the CPU is able to

How long till the chip shortage ends?

As we all know, the chip industry has a cycle, and according to the historical experience value, usually, a chip cycle is 3-5 years, and the market will be 1-2 quarters ahead of the fundamentals.   Why do cycles occur? First of all, the market demand increases, the supply exceeds the supply, the price goes up, then the fabs increase production, increase capacity, and the chip industry continues to rise, and this is the upcycle.   As capacity grows, there is a problem, which is that supply slowly exceeds demand, so inventories are high, prices fall, and eventually, there are fewer fabs, and you enter a downward cycle.   Until after the production cut, the market supply and demand relationship are balanced, slowly short of supply, then the chip price began to rise, into the upward cycle.   Throughout the decades of chip history, the industry has been up - down - up - down... Periodic fluctuations.   So the question arises, what stage is the chip industry currently in?   We all know tha

5 Layers Take You Through The Internal Structure Of A Chip : This Is What Professionals Do

Before we clarify the semiconductor chip, we should first understand two points. One is what a semiconductor is, and the other is what a chip is.   Semiconductor   semiconductor, a material with conductivity between insulator and conductor at room temperature. People usually call materials with poor conductivity, such as coal, artificial crystals, amber, ceramics, etc., insulators. And the conductivity of the better metals such as gold, silver, copper, iron, tin, aluminum, etc. called conductors. Compared with conductors and insulators, the discovery of semiconductor materials is the most recent, until the 1930s, when the material purification technology improved, the semiconductor only received the attention of the industry. Common semiconductor materials include silicon, germanium, gallium arsenide, etc., while silicon is the most influential of the various semiconductor materials in terms of commercial applications.   Chip   A chip, also known as a microchip, integrated circuit, o

Global Semiconductor Revenue Growth To Slow In 2023 Stats: These Numbers Are Real

The semiconductor market is likely to see at least five consecutive quarter-on-quarter declines from the first quarter of 2022 to the first quarter of 2023.   According to WSTS, the semiconductor market declined 0.8% in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the first quarter of 2022.   Revenues for the top 15 semiconductor suppliers for the second quarter of 2022 were in line with the overall market results, down 1% from the first quarter of 2022.   The companies' results were mixed.   Memory suppliers SK Hynix and Micron Technology led the way with revenue growth of 13.6 percent and 11.0 percent, respectively, for the second quarter of 2022. AMD's revenue grew 11.3 percent, primarily due to its acquisition of Xilinx.   The worst performers were Nvidia, down 19 percent due to weakness in its gaming business, and Intel, down 16.5 percent due to weakness in the PC market.     The outlook for the third quarter of 2022 is also mixed, Semiconductor Intelligence (SI) said.   The s

The Chip Basic Gates And Functions That Virtually No One Knows About

1. The gate   1.1 AND gate   And gate is two inputs and one output, when both inputs are 1, the output will be 1, otherwise the output will be 0. The underlying principle of the gate is explained by relays as follows:     In the case of an energized coil, there will be a magnetic effect. In the figure above we can see that if the two coils are energized, they will each suck down the switch above them, thus making the switch closed, which will then eventually lead to the bulb being energized.   We can see that there is a power supply connected to the bulb, and there are two switches on this circuit, which are controlled by the other two power supplies, so three power supplies are used in the whole circuit.     After simplifying the circuit, it looks like this above. As you can see, the light bulb should have the power to ignore, leaving only two switching power supplies.   1.2 Or-gate   OR-gate also has two inputs and one output. If at least one of the two inputs is 1, then the output i
